Flamanville reactor 2 incident: the ASN has activated its national emergency center

EDF activated its emergency plan at the Flamanville nuclear power plant as consequence of smoke emission from the nuclear auxiliary building of the reactor n° 2 which has been shut down for maintenance. The involved installation is used for the treatment of radioactive waste.

At 3:30 am, following the procedures in emergency cases, the French nuclear safety Authority (ASN) activated its national emergency center in order to follow the development of the situation.

EDF informed that the emission of smoke was not the consequence of fire and the smoke emission was stopped. EDF is conducting verifications of the involved installations. The firefighters, called for rescue, left the site.
