India will start generating 1,000MW of nuclear power in six months at the second unit of the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant (KNNP), which is located in the Tirunelveli district of Tamil Nadu.
The knowledge comes from a senior official at the facility, according to The Hindu Business Line.
KNPP has been developed in co-operation with Russia’s nuclear power corporation Rosatom.
The first 1,000MW reactor, Block 1, for the facility was installed in October 2013. It attained its full production capacity on 6 June 2014, and is the first plant to produce 1,000MW of nuclear power in India.
KNPP will also include two new units, Block 3 and Block 4, at the construction.
The nuclear reactors are in line with the strategic agreement signed between Rosatom and India for 12 nuclear developments in the country by 2035.
Russian ambassador Alexander Kadakin was cited by PTI earlier as saying that Russia will be negotiating with India for setting up unit five and six reactors at the complex.
