Dublin, Ireland – Shanahan Engineering has been awarded a significant project management services contract by Kum Shing E&M Limited, a member of the Kum Shing Group.
In September, Kum Shing E&M Limited was awarded, after intensive competition with other international players, the mechanical & electrical installation contract for the first SIEMENS H-Class Gas Turbine Combined Cycle Unit at Black Point Power Station in Hong Kong, China; owned by Castle Peak Power Company (CAPCO), and operated by CLP Power Hong Kong Limited, who is also the majority shareholder of CAPCO. The new unit will add another 550MW to the existing 2,525MW power station.
The contract covers a suite of project management services from Shanahan Engineering’s Dublin headquarters; including management oversight, pre-planning, key construction management processes, delivery of key personnel and the use of Shanahan Engineering’s weld management systems.
Rex Wong, Deputy CEO of the Kum Shing Group, said, “Shanahan Engineering’s safety performance as well as their extensive knowledge of delivering CCGT projects worldwide, including H-class gas turbine technology, made them our top choice for this contract.
“This is the first H-class gas turbine to be installed in China, which made it even more important that we team up with a company with the experience and knowledge to support our successful bid and execution of this project. We are grateful for Shanahan’s proactive technical support during the bid process which contributed significantly to the winning this strategic opportunity for Kum Shing Group.”
James Greaney, CEO of Shanahan Engineering said, “This project utilises our unique power project experience and proven in-house processes to ensure the successful installation of the first H-class turbine project in China for a prestigious owner.
“Our Safety performance record, corporate HSE programs and extensive knowledge of CCGT projects demonstrate Shanahan Engineering’s extensive capabilities for a project of this importance. We look forward to working with Kum Shing to deliver the project safely, to the best industry standards and on time to support the owner’s drive to improve air quality of Hong Kong.”
