Blue Water Shipping, Cyan Renewables, and LX International have formalised a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to jointly advance a next-generation offshore wind marshalling port in South Korea’s Dangjin. The agreement signals a pivotal step for South Korea’s offshore wind sector and sets the stage for Dangjin’s first port dedicated exclusively to marshalling activities tied to emerging offshore wind projects. The partners want to build an integrated offshore wind marshalling port that will assist installation campaigns and long-term project support by bringing together infrastructure, logistics, and offshore expertise.
The port complex is estimated to cover 200,000 square meters and have a 14-meter deep-water berth and a 480-meter vessel berthing quay. The site will have a ground bearing capability of 10–30 t/m² to handle heavy wind components and make load-out operations easier. It will also be able to accommodate next-generation offshore wind installation and support vessels. As a possible gateway for offshore wind development, Dangjin is expected to become a purpose-built offshore wind marshalling port that supports projects from installation to ongoing operations.
As part of the partnership, Blue Water Shipping will send skilled workers to South Korea who have worked with offshore wind components for decades. Working closely with local teams, these specialists will transfer operational best practices, technical know-how and safety standards aligned with international offshore wind marshalling benchmarks, while contributing to workforce training and upskilling initiatives.
Keng Lin Lee, Chief Executive Officer of Cyan Renewables stated that joining “LX’s infrastructure strength and Blue Water Shipping’s global logistics expertise” the company will strive to create “an integrated ecosystem that reduces bottlenecks, strengthens supply chains and accelerates offshore wind deployment in Korea.”
Jason Goh, Regional Senior Vice President, Energy Ports & Projects of Blue Water Shipping, Asia hoped that this partnership will work to “support South Korea’s planned 25GW offshore wind sector through port-ready infrastructure and efficient operations.”
P.R. Paik, Vice President of LX International stated that by combining “infrastructure, logistics expertise and offshore capabilities” they will build a platform that can support South Korea’s renewable energy ambitions for a foreseeable future.
