Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), held discussions with Almaz Tasbolat, Consul General of Kazakhstan in Dubai and the Northern Emirates, to examine opportunities for expanding bilateral ties in the renewable energy and water sectors. The meeting centered on strengthening renewable energy cooperation through joint initiatives, potential investments, and knowledge exchange, reflecting the deepening economic relationship between the UAE and Kazakhstan. Senior DEWA representatives, including Waleed bin Salman, Marwan Bin Haidar, and Dr. Yousef Al Akraf, also participated in the meeting, underscoring the importance placed on advancing renewable energy cooperation.
During the talks, Al Tayer reaffirmed DEWA’s intention to broaden collaboration with Kazakhstan, highlighting the organisation’s willingness to share expertise and support the development of clean energy projects. He detailed DEWA’s strategic direction aimed at diversifying Dubai’s energy mix, with a strong focus on renewable energy cooperation aligned with long-term policy frameworks such as the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050. These initiatives are designed to achieve 100% clean energy production capacity by 2050. In outlining ongoing progress, Al Tayer referenced the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park with an installed capacity of 3,860 MW. Clean energy already accounts for more than 21.5% of DEWA’s total capacity and is expected to rise to 36% by 2030, surpassing earlier projections and contributing to annual reductions of more than 8.5 million tonnes of carbon emissions.
Al Tayer also highlighted DEWA’s international standing, noting that the organisation holds the top global position in 13 key performance indicators across the utilities sector. He reiterated that innovation and sustainability remain central to DEWA’s long-term strategy, particularly as it continues to advance renewable energy cooperation and pursue a clean energy future. These efforts form part of a broader commitment to maintaining leadership in global utility performance while supporting environmental goals.
Tasbolat welcomed the engagement and conveyed Kazakhstan’s interest in deepening ties with DEWA, particularly in areas related to renewable energy cooperation and sustainable infrastructure development. The discussions reflected a shared commitment to enhancing collaboration between UAE and Kazakhstan, with a focus on building long-term partnerships that support clean energy growth and technological advancement.
