DayOne, TNB Sign Renewable Energy Supply Deals in Malaysia

AI Summary

DayOne Data Centers Limited, a global digital infrastructure platform headquartered in Singapore, has announced the finalization of substantial renewable energy supply agreements with TNB Renewables Sdn. Bhd. and TNB Power Generation Sdn. Bhd., both entities under the national energy provider. These agreements are a significant step towards integrating green energy into DayOne’s operations in Malaysia.

The formalization of these partnerships occurred under Malaysia’s Corporate Renewable Energy Supply Scheme (CRESS). This framework allows corporations to directly procure electricity from renewable energy developers. The agreements encompass approximately 1.5 GWp of solar capacity and 2.2 GWh of battery energy storage. This includes dedicated capacity for ground-mounted solar installations and hybrid hydro floating solar (HHFS) projects.

These renewable energy supply deals are instrumental in DayOne’s objective to achieve 100% renewable energy usage across its entire platform. The company aims to meet this target by 2030, or sooner if market conditions permit. Furthermore, these deals contribute to DayOne’s commitment to achieving a 42% absolute reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2025, using 2025 as a baseline.

These renewable energy supply deals build upon a previous renewable energy agreement between DayOne and TNB, signed in June 2025. That initial deal secured 500 megawatts of renewable energy over a 21-year term to support DayOne’s data center activities in Malaysia. With the addition of these latest agreements, DayOne now secures over 1 GW of renewable energy in Malaysia through its collaboration with TNB, reinforcing the commitment to Malaysia renewable energy deals.

The partnership directly aligns with Malaysia’s National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR). This national strategy aims to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions as early as 2050, with a target for renewable energy to constitute 70% of the installed capacity by that date. This initiative also reinforces Malaysia’s standing as a key regional center for data centers and digital infrastructure. The availability of reliable renewable energy is becoming increasingly vital for global hyperscale providers.

These renewable energy supply deals position DayOne Data Centers among the pioneering companies to transition from expressing intent to full contractual execution under the CRESS scheme. This underscores Malaysia’s role as a strategic hub for digital infrastructure, supported by advancements in cleaner power solutions. The expanded renewable energy collaboration with TNB reflects DayOne’s sustained commitment to and confidence in Malaysia as a core market for sustainable growth in hyperscale operations.

Jamie Khoo, Chief Executive Officer of DayOne, stated, “Today’s signing marks an important milestone in how we scale digital infrastructure responsibly. As demand for AI and cloud infrastructure accelerates, securing long-term access to renewable energy is critical. We are proud to be TNB’s largest customer and contribute to the stability of the national grid. This partnership strengthens our ability to grow in Malaysia with greater energy resilience while supporting our customers’ sustainability ambitions.”

Datuk Ir. Ts. Shamsul bin Ahmad, President/CEO of TNB, commented, “Through CRESS, we are facilitating greater access to sustainable and reliable energy solutions. TNB is proud to partner with DayOne in advancing a cleaner, more resilient energy ecosystem that supports Malaysia’s digital economy ambitions.”
