HELLENiQ ENERGY has completed and launched commercial operations at two new photovoltaic parks in southern Romania, marking an important step in the company’s international expansion in renewable energy. The projects, which together have a combined capacity of 58 MW, represent the company’s first operational renewable assets in the country and form part of its broader strategy to scale up solar projects in Romania. The start of operations signals a new phase in the Group’s renewable energy activities in the region while strengthening its footprint in southeastern Europe’s growing clean energy sector.
The newly operational facilities are linked to an agreement signed in 2023 between HELLENiQ ENERGY and METLEN for the development and acquisition of four solar installations with a combined capacity of 211 MW. The two completed parks are the first to move into commercial operation, while the remaining two solar projects in Romania, with a combined capacity of 153 MW, are scheduled for completion and entry into commercial service in 2026. By bringing these projects online, HELLENiQ ENERGY is establishing its operational presence in the Romanian renewable energy market and reinforcing the implementation of its strategy aimed at expanding its green energy portfolio internationally.
Looking ahead, the company plans to further strengthen its energy infrastructure in the country. Construction of a 96 MW wind farm in northeastern Romania is expected to be finalized in the second quarter of 2027. Once completed, the addition of the wind project alongside the ongoing solar projects in Romania will increase HELLENiQ ENERGY’s total installed renewable capacity in the country to more than 300 MW. Overall, the Group’s renewable portfolio in Romania already exceeds 850 MW, comprising a diversified mix of solar and wind installations along with energy storage systems designed to enhance system flexibility and resilience within the regional energy network.
Across its broader operations, HELLENiQ ENERGY is active in the renewables sector in five countries: Greece, Romania, Cyprus, Bulgaria and the Republic of North Macedonia. With the latest developments, the company’s renewable capacity currently in operation stands at 564 MW. The expansion of solar projects in Romania aligns with the Group’s long-term strategy, which targets 1.5 GW of installed renewable capacity within the next three years and more than 2 GW by 2030. Following the integration of Enerwave in 2025, the Renewables, Power and Gas divisions have become central to the company’s transformation, supporting the creation of a vertically integrated regional platform in electricity and natural gas while strengthening its growth trajectory.
