Vattenfall sign agreement for balancing services and market access for Markbygden Phase II North wind farm

in Press Statements, Wind Energy
The first floating wind farm in continental Europe is now fully operational

The wind farm, owned by wind turbine manufacturer Enercon and Energy Infrastructure Partners, will have an installed capacity of 253 MW, an estimated annual production of around 650 GWh and is expected to be fully operational by the end of the third quarter of 2021.

Johan Hagsten, Director Sales & Origination Nordic for Vattenfall’s Business Area Markets, said: “Vattenfall is pleased to sign this agreement for such a sizeable wind farm and are happy to start a relationship with these strong owners. The agreement will strengthen our position as a leading provider of balancing services and market access, and we are looking forward to working with the Markbygden team.”

The wind farm will consist of 63 turbines provided by Enercon, from its new E-138 EP3 series. Enercon will further provide comprehensive operation and management (“O&M”) services. When fully operational, the wind farm will generate enough power to provide more than 66,000 Swedish households with electricity.

In 2020, investors advised by Swiss collective asset manager Energy Infrastructure Partners AG (EIP) signed an agreement to acquire up to 85 percent stake in the wind farm from Enercon, the company behind the project’s development and operation.

About Vattenfall and its energy market services:
Vattenfall offers a full range of energy services for producers and large consumers of renewable electricity in all Nordic and North-European countries. Vattenfall’s Nordic customers’ wind assets are managed from the Nordic dispatch center in Stockholm, where the company combines comprehensive experience from European power markets with the latest available technology in order to optimize value creation on ancillary service markets and intra/day-ahead power markets.

About Enercon GmbH / EIP:
