MHI Vestas Offshore Wind has been picked as the preferred turbine supplier for the 220-MW Hibikinada offshore wind project in Japan, the turbine manufacturer said.
The wind farm will be installed off Kyushu island, off the southwest coast of Japan, boasting the most powerful wind turbines in the country. It will be equipped with MHI Vestas’ V174-9.5 MW machines and will be the first one in the Asia Pacific region to use this particular turbine model.
The Hibikinada project was developed by Hibiki Wind Energy — a consortium of five companies comprising Kyuden Mirai Energy Co Inc, Kyudenko Corp (TYO:1959), Hokutaku Renewable Energy Service, Electric Power Development Co Ltd (better known as J-Power) and Saibu Gas (TYO:9536). The partners’ proposal envisages the installation of up to 55 turbines.
