Largest coal-burning electric plant in China, the Beilun Power Plant’s No. 9 generation unit, has been put into operation post 168 hours of full-load trial operation that took place in Ningbo City in the east of Zhejiang Province, China, remarked National Energy Corporation, its operator, on November 3, 2025.
Multiple technologies like flue gas condensation were applied in the one-million-kilowatt unit, therefore resulting in a 60% reduction in terms of pollutant emissions.
Due to the official commissioning of Unit 9, the installed capacity of thermal power of the plant reached 7.34 million kilowatts.
It is well to be noted that there have been nine generating units at this largest coal-burning electric plant in China, which include Units 8 and 9, each one of which has a capacity of one million kilowatts.
All thanks to advanced technologies, both the units that were put into operation in 2025 happen to have a coal consumption of 257.24 grams per kilowatt hour in terms of power supply, therefore setting a new benchmark in terms of energy efficiency of similar units located in China.
The head of the engineering department with the Zhejiang Beilun power plant of National Energy Corporation, Sun Cheng, said that due to the commissioning of Unit 9, the nine units of the Beilun power plant can generate almost 176 million kilowatt-hours of electricity every day at full load, which can go ahead and power over 20 million households. The annual power generation of the plant is anticipated to go beyond 40 billion kilowatt-hours, thereby supplying plenty of electricity across the entire east of China.
